Episcopal Oversight: A Case for Reform

At the end of the 20th Century there was a definite call for the reform of the episcopate in the Church of England - not for abolition but reform. Why is there such a need?

This booklet has at its core the 3rd Latimer Lecture, delivered by David Holloway in Oxford on 2 July 1994 and repeated in Durham on 10 November 1994. It looks at the historical background and classical Anglican doctrine, and moves on to today's world, in a thorough discussion of the issues. A series of appendices supplement and inform the debate.

David Holloway is Vicar of Jesmond Parish Church in Newcastle upon Tyne. Formerly on the staff of Wycliffe Hall Theological College, Oxford, he has been a member of the General Synod of the Church of England and of its Standing Committee, and a founding member of REFORM.
